Making Photographs I
Learn more about your digital camera and the techniques that will help your artistic expression in making photographs from local professional photographer, Gary Todoroff. This 7-week course will be a combination of lectures, labs, field trips and critiques that will cover the fundamentals of photography and how to apply that knowledge to using your camera for your way of seeing things.
Gary recommends the book by Ray Koken, edited by Sam Swanlund “Better Pictures through Good Composition,” for sale in class for $5.00.
Students must have basic knowledge of their camera. This is a “hands-on” class so bring your camera and operating manual!
Classes are open to students both under and over 50

Making Photographs II
Gary Todoroff teaches the next stage in his hands-on photography class, where more advanced techniques and artistic attention will help you to make photographs, not just take them. Topics will cover creative use of manual modes on your camera, flash lighting techniques, night-time photography, computer monitor calibration for color workflow, slide-show software, photo enlargements and more.
Taking "Making Photographs I" is not a strict prerequisite for this class, but students should be familiar with the technical aspects of their cameras (preferably DSLR) and the fundamentals of photographic composition.

PhotoShop Zero
Students will receive an introduction to some of the basics of Photoshop with hands-on
lab training. Topics will include file handling, workflow, file types, auto-adjustments,
cropping, sizing and tools such as Select and Rubber Stamp. This class will prepare you
for the seven-session class, Using Photshop as a Darkroom.
No previous experience with Photoshop is necessary. However, you do need basic
computer skills with at least a comfortable working knowledge of a Windows
application such as Word, Excel or Outlook.
Space is limited to 15 students.

Gary Todoroff has been photographing the landscapes and people of the North Coast since 1971. Along with many local publications, his work has been published with Lonely Planet, Barnes and Noble calendars, Old House Journal architectural magazine, and on covers for “California Hiking” and “California Camping” by Avalon-Foghorn guidebooks. His aerial photographs hang in the offices of the US Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Mississippi. Fine art prints decorate homes, offices and hotels locally and around the country. As a volunteer for the Coast Guard Art Program, Todoroff documented air and boat stations from Hawaii to Boston.
Todoroff’s teaching experience includes positions in university, adult education, and information technology businesses such as Hewlett-Packard. His photography career spans the management of chemistry darkrooms through the current use of computer networks for printing and publication. He has been teaching with CRPlus since it started in 2009.
