I have worked with adults and youth in Del Norte and Humboldt counties for the last seven years in the Mental Health field.  My interests and professional background have always leaned toward assisting others with accomplishing their goals and advocating for their rights and needs.  Now at College of the Redwoods I have the opportunity to assist students in accomplishing their educational goals.  Watching a person, regardless of age, learn to overcome obstacles is always inspiring.tree

My family roots are planted in Del Norte County.  I attended Margaret Keating School in Klamath and graduated from Del Norte High School before leaving to attend college.  While at Sonoma State University studying for my bachelors in Philosophy, I worked for both the Department of Extended Education and the Philosophy Department.  My last year was especially interesting because two other students and I were given the opportunity to student teach an Intro to Philosophy course with a lecture section of 100+ students.

Eight years later the redwoods and pristine Smith River drew me north again.  I currently live  near the Smith River with my husband and young daughter.  Reading, traveling, kayaking on the river, teaching Jazzercise and working in my yard are some of the ways I like to spend time away from work.  If I don’t have a vacation planned, you can bet that I just returned from one!  My last summer before graduating from college I drove across the country visiting National Parks and worked on an island off of Massachusetts called Martha’s Vineyard. So far I’ve traveled to Mexico, Germany, France, Italy, Sardinia, Switzerland, Canada and Hawaii.   kayaks
