The Virtual
Campus is designed for students who want to take a College of the
Redwoods' course, but for a variety of reasons either cannot take
the course on campus or prefer the distance education environment.
If you have a full-time job, family obligations, schedule
conflicts, disabilities, live far from a College of the Redwoods'
campus, prefer distance education classes, or even simply want to
try something new, an online course at CR may be a good choice.
Online
classes have the same course objectives, curriculum, and often the
same class syllabus as the classroom sections of the course.
Classes are semester-long, beginning with the regular classes and
ending during finals' week. The difference is the method of course
delivery. For most online sections, learning is primarily through
instructor-directed reading, writing, and class participation.
Most or all assignments and exams are web-based. To
succeed you need to have:
- the ability to
work independently with self discipline and good
organizational skills
- college-level
reading and writing skills
- easy use of a
computer with internet (preferably broadband) and email access
- the basic skills
to access and navigate websites, send and receive email, and
send email attachments
- the ability to
read carefully and follow written instructions
The online course schedules for
Spring 2008,
Summer 2008, and
Fall 2008 are available for class information. The websites provide additional information
about specific online classes and instructor contact information. The
current course status can be found by going to
Web Advisor.
Go to the "Search for Classes" link and then to the Campus
drop-down menu and select "Virtual Campus-Online Classes."
After you have registered
for an online class: On the first day
of the semester, simply go to
Blackboard, login, find your
online class and follow the instructions.
