GUID-10 Introduction to Peer Tutoring
CSU(0.5 units lab)
Course includes practical skills necessary to function as a peer tutor with training in human relation techniques, individual differences in learning styles, the importance of independence and good study habits and educational methods used to promote good learning.

GUID-300 ESL: Introduction to Academic Skills
(1 unit lecture)
This course is a bridge from Adult Education English as a Second Language (ESL) to skills needed for college level classes. Skills taught will be study skills, listening skills and note taking skills. In addition, the organization of text books and an introduction to the library will be addressed.

GUID-343 Introduction to Learning Disabilities
(0.5 units lecture/lab)
This course is designed to provide an overview of specific learning disabilities. It will include information regarding ability, achievement, adaptive behavior, learning skills and learning disabilities as described in Title V of the California Education Code for community colleges. The use of individualized student education plans and incorporating adaptive strategies for learning disabilities will be covered. The importance of interpersonal skills for successful mainstreaming of learning disabled students is also stressed. The course is designed primarily for the learning disabled student but is useful also to tutors, instructional aides and others who work with or are interested in the person with a learning disability.

GUID-345 Adaptive Strategies for the Learning Disabled
(0.5 - 4 units lecture/lab)Repeatable to a maximum of two enrollments
A course focusing on adaptive strategies designed for the success of a student with a learning disability or other disability. Characteristics and issues surrounding learning disability, neurological and cognitive processes, processing, advocacy and social development are all addressed both in a lecture and a lab setting. The student may select one or more sections (modules) designed to address difficulties in a specific academic area, while incorporating strategies and techniques to enhance success. Strategies to enhance auditory and visual processing, language processing and advocacy are incorporated into specific course sections with emphasis on fluid reasoning, language comprehension, basic language skills, study skills, personal development and stress reduction. Laboratory experiences focus on skill development in the respective emphasis areas to prepare students with disabilities for independence and success in college courses.

GUID-379 Introduction to Adapted Computer Use
(0.5 - 4 units lecture/lab)Repeatable to a maximum of two enrollments
Students with verifiable disabilities will be provided individualized training in adapted microcomputer hardware, software and related applications; individualized assessment to select appropriate computer applications; and keyboarding experience for adapted computer use.

GUID-380 Adapted Computer Assisted Instruction
(0.5 - 4 units lecture/lab)Repeatable to a maximum of two enrollments
This course will provide disabled students with individualized adapted computer instruction to improve basic skills, cognitive processes and computer application skills.

GUID-41 World of Work
CSU(1 unit lecture)
An exploration of the tools, personal qualities, and skills necessary to find and keep rewarding employment. Students will learn how to use electronic, print, and personal resources to identify jobs related to their career goals, to create resumes, and to interview effectively.
Recommended: ENGL-150/150L
Note: GUID-41 is required for all students enrolling in CE-41 or CE-42 for the first time. It is open to all interested students.

GUID-47 Leadership Development
CSU(2 units lecture)
An introduction to the study of leadership, focusing both on the academic study of leadership theories and the development of leadership skills. Additional objectives for the course include exploring diversity, utilizing college resources as a “learning laboratory” for leadership development, and exploring the intersection between community service and leadership.
Corequisite: GUID-47L

GUID-47L Leadership Development Lab
CSU(1 unit lab)Repeatable to a maximum of four enrollments
A supervised lab experience designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply the theories and concepts presented in GUID-47 through a service-learning project and student government, campus clubs, or residential life.
Note: GUID-47 must be taken the first semester only.

GUID-8 Career Planning
CSU(2 units lecture)
Career planning and decision making, education, work and leisure alternatives, life-styles and personal satisfaction will be discussed.
