Medical Assisting

The Medical Assistant is a vital member of the health care team, performing both administrative and clinical procedures in physicians’ offices, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, and other health care agencies. The Medical Assisting program at College of the Redwoods is a 9-month certificate program with opportunity to complete additional units, if desired, to earn the Associate in Science Degree. Program content includes administrative skills such as bookkeeping, office procedures, data processing, transcription, handling medical records and insurance billing, and clinical skills such as vital signs, venipuncture, injections, EKG's and patient preparation.  

Administrative and clinical experience is provided in local community medical offices. A new class begins every Fall semester based on open enrollment.
