MUSIC PERFORMANCE
These are “how to” classes for individuals who want to learn a specific music skill or want to further develop their abilities. These are semester-long, one-unit courses. The College of the Redwoods offers instruction in the following areas:
Beginning Instruments (Music 22) offers instruction in the fundamentals of playing wind instruments or percussion, standard concert band instruments. Can be repeated up to four times for credit.
Conga Drumming and African Polyrhythms (Music 23) offers instruction in the techniques and strokes of conga drumming, with exercises and concepts in African rhythms and polyrhythms. This course can be repeated twice for credit.
Class Piano (Music 25A, B, C, and D) is a four-semester sequence of instruction in piano technique and performance.
Beginning Class Voice (Music 26) offers group instruction in the basics of singing. This course can be repeated twice for credit.
Intermediate Class Voice (Music 27) teaches more advanced singing concepts under group instruction, and can also be repeated twice for credit.
Folk Guitar (Music 29) offers group instruction in folk guitar techniques. This course can be repeated twice for credit.
Jazz Improvisation (Music 37A/B, 38A/B) offers instruction in the techniques and theories of jazz improvisation. Can be taken four times for credit. Fall semester only.
Songwriting (Music 100) develops song-writing skills and can be repeated four times for credit.
