It is aimed at understanding how this environment influences marine plants and animal life. Topics included are marine geology and continental drift; ocean circulation as waves, tides, and currents; food production in the oceans. | | | | |
| | OCEAN-11 | Lab in Oceanography | | CSU and UC | (1 unit lab) | | | An exploration of the conceptual material presented in OCEAN-10. Students will acquire practical laboratory and field experience in many oceanographic skills, tests, and procedures. Laboratory exercises will focus on chart reading and navigational skills, basic measurements of seawater chemistry, and other processes. Field experience will include examination of coastal geology, wave and beach processes, and marine organisms and habitats. | | Prerequisite: OCEAN-10 or concurrent enrollment | | Note: Field trips included. | | OCEAN-12 | Environmental Oceanography | | CSU and UC | (3 units lecture) | | | A study of the fundamental principles of oceanography and the resources available from the sea. The basic concepts of physical, chemical, geologic and biological oceanography will be supported by discussions on marine mineral resources, ocean energy, living resources of the sea, marine pollution and ocean management. | | | | |
