Welcome to the information page
for the online sections of General Psychology and Life Span
Development to be offered Fall Semester, 2007. This site
is designed to give you an overview of how the classes work.
The class outlines used for the fall semester will be very
similar to the spring semester's outlines. The textbooks will
be the same. If you have any questions, please
don't hesitate to email me at
mark-winter@redwoods.edu or phone at 707-476-4310. This course is for students who want to take a course
in psychology, but for a variety of reasons either
cannot take the course on campus or prefer an online environment.
If you have a full-time job, family obligations, schedule
conflicts, disabilities, live far from a College of the Redwoods'
campus, prefer online classes, or even simply want to try a class
online, this online class may be a good option. An online course is similar to a traditional course except
there are no face-to-face meetings. As
a result, to succeed you need to be able to
- work independently with self discipline and good
organizational skills
- read and write at a college-level as there is more reading
and writing than in a traditional class
- have access to a computer, basic computer skills, email
access, and easy access to the world wide web

The class will be organized around weekly assignments.
Most weeks you will be required to read a chapter (or chapters) from the textbook,
read the posted weekly lecture(s) and slide show(s), complete an online quiz on the
readings, and participate in the online discussion forum
(asynchronous postings). In addition, there are a few projects
requiring short papers. Please note that there is a midterm and final exam which you must take at one
of the CR campus sites: Eureka, Arcata, Del Norte, Mendocino Coast, or Klamath/Trinity. Other proctored arrangements
are possible if you reside outside of the northcoast region. You can take a look at
the class outlines (see Fall, 2006, Class Syllabus above) to get
an idea of how the classes work. Important Note: You must participate in the class
activities during the first week of classes or you will be dropped from
the class roster. The class website will be available to you on
Blackboard the Friday before the
semester begins. I will also email a reminder before class begins. It is
important that CR's Enrollment Office has your current email address and
phone number and that the Blackboard System has your current email.
