College of the Redwoods Art Gallery

Artist Bryan Nash Yerian presents his mixed media sculpture installation Behavioral Constructs. This exhibit is the epitome of “art imitating life”. Upon entering the gallery the viewer is met with the main attraction of the show “ March 2003”. This sculpture is a three dimensional rendering of data collected by the artist during the month of March 2003, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For one month Mr. Yerian recorded the duration of his actions such as working, making art, studying, sleeping, talking, and even showering. The result is an engaging and dynamic work that turns the viewer into a voyeur of sorts in an effort to see the life of a working artist for a month.

Mr. Yerian received his Bachelor of Arts from Humboldt State University and is very active in the local art community. Currently, he is the Instructional Support Assistant II in the HSU Sculpture Department. He was the President of HSU’s Association of Student Sculptors from 2001 to 2003, and the recipient of many awards such as the Outstanding Student Award-Excellence in Fine Arts (2003), the Van Duzer Scholarship (2002), and the Marchi Sculpture Award (2001). He has shown in venues such as the Ink People, the Morris Graves Museum, the Reese Bullen Gallery, and the First Street Gallery.

The exhibit runs until March 6, 2004. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from noon to 4:00pm. This exhibit was curated by Rebecca Murtaugh, Assistant Professor of Art. Please direct questions to 476.4319.
