FRNC-11A Beginning Conversational French
CSU(3 units lecture)
A beginning study in conversational French with special emphasis on pronunciation, conversational skills, and vocabulary studying. The concepts and vocabulary presented are designed to be useful to travelers in French-speaking countries.

FRNC-1A Elementary French
CSU and UC(4 units lecture)
The student will acquire French language skills which emphasize oral and written competency and communication skills at a basic level. Current French is learned in a fashion designed to introduce approximately one new concept a day which is then practiced in class, in the Learning Assistance Center and in written homework assignments designed to reinforce what was taught in the classroom. Frequent dictations test aural comprehension. A basic acquaintance with French customs will be made.

FRNC-1B Elementary French
CSU and UC(4 units lecture)
Continuation of FRNC-1A, with continued emphasis on spoken and written French.
Prerequisite: FRNC-1A

FRNC-2A Intermediate French
CSU and UC(4 units lecture)
A study in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing French at the intermediate level with emphasis on spoken French and increasing attention to reading and writing. It includes a grammar review and vocabulary expansion exercises and appreciation of the diverse French cultures.
Prerequisite: FRNC-1B

FRNC-2B Intermediate French
CSU and UC(4 units lecture)
A continuation of FRNC-2A. It includes understanding, speaking, reading, and writing French at the intermediate level with emphasis on spoken French and increasing attention to reading and writing. It expands appreciation and knowledge of the diverse French cultures. Course emphasis is on culturally authentic reading and writing, along with continued development in listening/speaking competencies.
Prerequisite: FRNC-2A

FRNC-8A Elementary Conversational French
CSU(3 units lecture)
A study designed to develop and increase the students’ oral conversational skills. Emphasis will be on deepening listening comprehension and internalization of the language. Students will be able to handle and respond to the practical aspects of life while focusing on the French cultural awareness. The course will reinforce intuition and spontaneity to facilitate the speaking abilities while expanding vocabulary and grammar skills.
Prerequisite: FRNC-1A Recommended FRNC-1B
