IR Surveys
Current Projects
Entering Student Survey, 2008 : The 2008 Entering Student Survey data is currently being cleaned and analyzed by Brandie Wilson, a graduate student intern from the Humboldt State University Sociology Department. The 2008 entering student survey was administered district wide whereas the 2007 entering student survey was only administered on the Eureka campus. Findings will be available in the fall of 2008.
DSPS Survey: The IR department has been working in conjunction with DSPS to refine a district-wide student survey. The survey is primarily focused on satisfaction with DSPS services, resources, and classes.
Campus Climate Surveys: Campus climate surveys are commonly deployed to assess the social and learning environments of a college and to measure the ability of a given college to welcome and provide opportunities to diverse groups of students. A draft of a College of the Redwoods campus climate survey was constructed by a Title ІІІ supported graduate student intern from the Humboldt State Sociology Department and IR staff in the spring of 2008. The construction of the campus climate survey instrument was informed by a number of research processes that included interviews, a talk-aloud protocol assessing the draft survey, focus groups, and a pilot survey directed at respondents who participated in the 2008 entering student survey and had active emails in the CR system. As a district wide campus climate survey will require time and significant resources and planning, an administration date has not been set. The survey objectives and instrument will continue to be refined with college leadership and stakeholders.  Â

Instructional Site Surveys, 2008
Surveys were administered simultaneously at the Arcata Instructional Site and the Eureka Downtown Site in the spring of 2008. The surveys were constructed with identical questions and were primarily written to gather data related to student satisfaction with campus services, satisfaction with course offerings, decision to attend site campuses, and demographic information. The surveys were first administered by instructors on February 4th and continued until February 15th. The Arcata Instructional Site had a sample of 198 students and the Eureka Downtown Site had a respective sample of 234 students. The Instructional Site surveys are planned to be administered again to collect longitudinal data on Instructional Site services, service usage, and student population. Included below is the Instructional Site survey instruments, Instructional Site executive summary, and Instructional Site frequencies that summarize all the survey responses for both the Eureka Downtown Site and the Arcata Instructional Site.

Entering Student Survey, 2007
The entering student survey was administered from May 21st through August 26th on the Eureka campus and had a sample size of 390 students (61.0% of entering students at the Eureka campus). The survey was constructed to understand entering student’s expectations, academic goals, academic background, family educational background, financial status, social interest, factors leading to the decision to attend CR, and demographic information. The entering student survey will be administered every year. Recently stakeholders met to improve the survey instrument for the next round of administration which begins this coming May. Included below is the entering student survey instrument, entering student report, entering student executive summary, and entering student frequencies that summarize all the survey responses.

Student Schedule Survey, 2007
The student schedule survey was administered on the Eureka campus from May 7th through May 18th and had a sample size of 243 students. The survey was constructed to assess class scheduling, understand the extent of interest in distant education courses, and better understand why students drop or miss classes. Available below is the student schedule survey instrument, student schedule executive summary, and the student schedule frequencies that summarize all the survey responses.

Student Services Survey, 2007
The student services survey was administered district-wide from February 1st through February 15th and had a sample of 873 students (14.9% of CR population). The survey was constructed to illuminate student satisfaction in multiple areas of student services, inform service improvement, and assess the relationship between student demographics and satisfaction and matriculation at CR. Available below is the student services survey instrument, student services survey resport, student services executive summary, student services district-wide frequencies, and student services frequencies by campus.
