PROCEDURE FOR TESTING ACCOMMODATIONS

A test should measure what it purports to measure, not the effects of the disability. The most appropriate method of administering a test depends upon the student’s disability and the design of the test. Students who have disabilities that affect manual dexterity, vision or perception generally may be provided extra time to complete tests.

It is the instructor’s responsibility to provide testing accommodations; these may be provided in the ASC on the Eureka Campus or another, mutually agreed upon site (between the instructor and student) that affords a distraction reduced test environment. While time and date of the test is negotiable, lecture time shall not be impacted.

Testing accommodations for students with disabilities are provided in Academic Support Center on the Eureka campus. Please contact DSPS on your campus for the testing accommodation process. Students with disabilities must obtain a Support Services Agreement from the DSPS Office authorizing testing accommodations.

The student establishes eligibility for testing accommodations with the course instructor by presenting the Support Services Agreement and the Test Proctoring Card (See sample ASC card below). The instructor signs the card. Instructors are encouraged to call DSPS with questions about the accommodation process.

The student returns the test proctoring card to the ASC. The card verifies authorization for test proctoring and accommodations.

DSPS provides the personnel for test proctoring, readers, scribes, and other testing accommodations in the ASC.
