Earthquake Status Update
On Saturday January 9 2010, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake hit off the North Coast near Petrolia at 4:27 p.m.
There appears to be no major structural damage to the Eureka campus, McKinleyville, Arcata or Eureka Downtown instructional sites. All sites are open for business Monday, January 11. Spring semester will start Sat., Jan. 16 as scheduled, and students can still register online or in person.
According to the CR Maintenance Department, the following items were noted as a result of the quake:
- Admissions and Records sustained major file disruption. There will be a delay in processing transcript requests that use archival data.
- One of our two water tanks was damaged. The other tank is fine and we have water pressure on the campus.
- The hot water heater for both residence halls is off as of Sunday, Jan. 10. Students staying there can take showers in the PE building.
- The wood-fired kiln behind the Creative Arts building was destroyed. All Spring ceramics classes WILL take place as scheduled.
