Coach Mora, who is entering his first year as head coach at College of the Redwoods, was the Big Five’s Most Valuable Player his senior basketball season at Fortuna High in 1995. Following his time with the Huskies, Mora went on to star at Cuesta Junior College in San Luis Obispo for two seasons, averaging 14 points, 6.3 rebounds and two assists per game his sophomore year. The Cougars went 33-5 that season, finishing the year as the seventh ranked team in the state. Mora then moved on to Division-II basketball at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Az., where he played for two seasons. Following his playing career, Mora was an assistant coach at Fortuna from 2000-2007, and was then named head coach at Ferndale in 2008. In his first season with the Wildcats, Mora led the team to its first playoff berth in 28 years, and in his third year, helped the team win its first North Coast Section championship in school history, which the Wildcats repeated last season.

Barry Mendenhall

Coach Mendenhall may be entering his first season at CR, but by no stretch is he new to coaching. Mendenhall, who has more than 28 years of coaching, scouting and recruiting experience, has now coached at eight different schools, including Piner, Saratoga, Santa Teresa and Fortuna high schools, Santa Rosa and West Valley junior colleges, the University of Idaho and CR. Mendenhall coached under four-time California Community College Coach of the Year, Bob Burton, at West Valley. In addition to coaching teams, Mendenhall has coached at or directed more than 100 basketball camps in his career. |

Ed Houseworth
Assistant Coach, First Season
Coach Houseworth, who is entering his first season at CR, also went to high school at Fortuna, where he played three years of varsity basketball and two years of varsity baseball, graduating in 1985. Houseworth got his first varsity coaching job at Fortuna High in 1989, where he was the head coach for four seasons. He then moved on to become an assistant coach at Southern Oregon University from 1993-1996, before returning to Humboldt County to become head coach at Ferndale for two seasons in 1997 and 1998. Houseworth then spent two years as a head coach back at Fortuna, two years as a head coach at South Fork, and has since bounced back and forth as a coach between Winship Middle School and Eureka High. |
