Three candidates have been selected as finalists for the new president/superintendent of College of the Redwoods.
Following former CR President Casey Crabill’s departure in July 2006, the college has conducted a nationwide search for a new leader. A committee, comprised of community members and college personnel from throughout the CR District, has identified three finalists for the Board of Trustees’ consideration: Dr. John Madden, currently the Dean of Instruction at the Desert Vista Campus of the Pima County Community College District in Tucson, Ariz.; Dr. Paulette Perfumo, most recently Superintendent-President of the Solano Community College District in Fairfield, Calif.; and Dr. James Sorensen, currently the College President at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.
CR hopes to have a new president in place by July.
Each finalist will visit the Eureka Campus, the Del Norte Campus, and the Mendocino Coast Campus.
Dr. Madden will visit the Eureka campus on Tuesday, April 10, Dr. Sorensen will visit the Eureka campus on Wednesday, April 11, and Dr. Perfumo will visit the Eureka campus on Thursday, April 12. The community is invited to attend a public forum at 9 a.m. on each of these days in the Forum Theater. Since Crabill’s departure, the acting president of CR has been Dr. Jeffrey Bobbitt, who had served as CR’s Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs for nine years.
The CR District, formed in 1964, encompasses the northwest corner of California, including Del Norte and Humboldt counties, the northwest section of Mendocino County and a small portion of western Trinity County. The main campus is located seven miles south of Eureka and two branch campuses are located in Crescent City and Fort Bragg.
CR has academic programs that allow students to move on to four-year universities as well as professional and technical training in many areas. The college also partners with its communities in economic development initiatives.
