What was a day like on a 72 day patrol? Alert one, alert one! What does that mean? How does it feel to shoot a test ballistic missile and what were our thoughts on war with nuclear missiles? With three to one odds against us, would we have won? A 20-year submariner will discuss the changes seen in the Navy from the end of the Vietnam War to the fighting in Kuwait.

Thursday, May 3 @ 6L9907:30 p.m. in the Del Norte campus library

Victor Pope is a 20 year veteran nuclear power submarine electrician. During this time he was on ballistic missile and fast attack submarines. He performed duties as an electrical operator, supervising the engineering plant. In the repair mode, he coordinated the operations during reactor refueling overhauls. Additionally, as a nuclear repair coordinator, he spent the last four years of his naval career instructing students at an on-land nuclear power plant preparing them for operations at sea.
