The Lady Corsairs opened the Central Valley Crossover with a win, edging Reedley College 65-63 Friday.

“I was so incredibly proud of the team,” said Redwoods head coach Kara Newman. “We really put 40 minutes together. We played two solid halves.”

Kayanna Walstrand scored a team-high 14 points in the win, and added 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Point guard Angela Fitzhugh added 13 points in the win, while dishing out 11 assists, and Whitney Phillips finished with 11 points.

“Offensively, we had good ball movement and attacked the basket well,” Newman added.

Allissa Williamson was credited with an outstanding night on the defensive end and finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Natoya Campbell added eight points, eight steals and seven boards.

The Redwoods women (7-11) will play Taft today at 1 p.m.
