WEED -- After overcoming a slow start and fighting back to make it a contest, there was no way the College of the Redwoods men's basktball team was going to suffer a letdown.

And it would be Tom Higgins providing the exclamation point on the Corsairs' 79-77 victory of Siskiyous on Saturday with a clutch 3-pointer.

”Higgins' big three at the end gave us a four point lead and free throws sealed the deal,” CR boss Jayson Vossler said. “We overcome errors making free throws and shots at the end.”

Higgins' bomb from 3-point land and accurate free-throw shooting may have sealed the deal for CR, but if it were not for Darren Nye's 29-point effort buoyed by Tim Pratt's 19-point afternoon, the Corsairs would have not been able to traverse a poor-shooting effort to tie the contest at 36 at the half and ultimately win the game.

The Corsairs (4-4 in Golden Valley Conference play) have a week's rest on their hands before taking the court once again in Eureka to host Feather River College at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Gaining a victory this weekend is imperative for the Corsairs to stay in the running for postseason play as Butte, Feather River, and Redwoods are all tied for second place in the GVC at 4-4.

There is Always Next Year: CR Men Narrowly Miss Playoffs
All he could do was sit and wait over the weekend, hoping for news that his team would embark on the road to postseason glory. Jayson Vossler knew he and his team did all they could to earn the right to lengthen their season with a playoff berth. Patiently he waited, and on Monday, he didn't get the news he wanted to hear.
CR Men Make Case to Get In Playoffs, Knock Off Feather River
The Redwoods men's basketball team grinded out a tough 71-59 win over Feather River on Saturday, which may have been all the Corsairs needed to extend their season.
