The College of the Redwoods Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Jeff Marsee to serve as CR’s permanent president/superintendent beginning on July 1 during a special Trustees meeting on Tuesday, April 29.

The selection of Marsee was the culmination of a seven-month, national-search process. A 15-person president/superintendent screening committee made up of community members and CR faculty, classified employees, administrators, students and trustees recommended four candidates to be interviewed by the Board of Trustees.

Following campus visits and individual candidate interviews with the Board of Trustees, Marsee was selected by the board to be the next permanent president/superintendent of CR.
CR has been without a permanent president since July 2006.

This year CR has been led by Interim President Tom Harris.
“I feel that College of the Redwoods has a bright future under Dr. Marsee’s leadership,” said CR Board of Trustees President George Truett. “The board is extremely pleased with the selection of Dr. Marsee. He has extensive experience in budgeting, strategic planning and enrollment management. His expertise in finances will help us in these tough economic times in the state of California. He will help keep us in the black and help us grow as a college.”

Marsee is currently the vice president of administrative services at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. He has served for more than 21 years as a vice president and vice chancellor of academic affairs and fiscal services at community colleges in Texas, New York and California.

Marsee has taught as an adjunct and full-time faculty member at the community college and university level. In addition, Marsee’s background includes working seven years with colleges and universities developing and establishing student recruitment and retention plans, installing strategic budget models, streamlining operational procedures to improve student access and implementing best practice change initiatives.

Marsee has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Southern California where he attended on an academic-athletic scholarship and achieved NCAA All-American status in cross-country. He earned a master’s degree in economics from California State University, Long Beach, and a doctorate degree in the Community College Leadership Program from the University of Texas at Austin.

“I would like to personally thank the faculty, staff, students, and community for making the presidential selection process go smoothly for the candidates and the college,” said CR Interim President Tom Harris. “CR is an excellent college with many good people working here. It has been a privilege serving as the college’s president this past year.”
