Local Players Commit to CR Baseball

A number of local athletes have made commitments to play in the CR baseball program next year, including the Humboldt-Del Norte League Big 5 Most Valuable Player. Interim head coach Todd Zeigler announced that Ryan Stearns of Eureka High School will be attending College of the Redwoods next year with the intent of playing baseball. Stearns, a right handed pitcher and third baseman, is also a key player this summer on the Eureka Falcons American Legion team.

Additional H-DN All-County players committing to CR baseball are Matt Burwell, a pitching standout also from Eureka High; Matt Landing, first baseman from St. Bernard’s; Chris Guiterrez, outfield and second baseman from Eureka; Jared Towns, designated hitter and first baseman from Eureka. Other local area players moving on the CR are Chris Katri a 2007 graduate from Fortuna High; Gary Noel, also class of 2007 from Fortuna; Cody Hills of Eureka High; Justin Yslas, a Del Norte 2007 grad; Jonathan Enos from Del Norte High and Kevin Walsworth, a 2007 Del Norte grad and standout pitcher who is transferring to Redwoods from Butte College. “Local recruiting is the foundation of our program. There a number of local players we are still actively recruiting and we hope they make the choice to play for us at CR,” says Zeigler.

A number of players hailing from out of the area have also made commitments to play for the Corsairs including: Justin Baker—Enterprise HS in Redding; Thomas Bagwell—Hidden Valley HS in Grants Pass, Oregon; Spencer Brandon—Santiago HS in Irvine; Eddie Burton—Centennial HS in Portland, Oregon; Jayson Cabacle—Leilehua HS in Leilehua, Hawaii; Chris Clark—Columbia River HS in Vancouver, Washington; Jon Collier—Madison HS in Portland, Oregon; Andrew DeForest—Kuna HS in Kuna, Idaho; Andrew Good—Madison HS in Portland, Oregon; Austin Higa—Leilehua HS in Leilehua, Hawaii; Matt Lewis—La Sierra HS in Riverside; Cory Sheelar—Mohawk HS in Springfield, Oregon; Karl Steidel—Quincy HS in Quincy.
