It probably wouldn’t have mattered if the College of the Redwoods women had 15 players on their roster instead of just eight — there was no stopping College of the Siskiyous.
The Eagles hit 12 three-pointers and made 16-of-22 free throws in an 83-44 Golden Valley Conference rout at Eureka on Saturday.
Siskiyous jumped ahead 16-0 in the opening minutes with the help of Kristi Arness, who scored 14 of her team’s first 24 points, including three three-pointers, and the Eagles massed a 54-20 lead at halftime.
“Siskiyous is one of the top teams in the state,” said CR head coach Kara Newman. “And they just happened to have one of their best shooting nights against us.”
Arness scored 18 of her 20 points in the first half and finished with four three-pointers, while teammate Karlee Myers scored a game-high 24.
For the Corsairs (0-2 in the GVC and 7-14 overall), who have dropped eight of their last nine games, Allissa Williamson scored a team-high 12 points on four three-pointers, her second consecutive game with four three-pointers. CR’s Kayanna Walstrand and Natoya Campbell scored eight points apiece, while Antoinette Risling finished with seven points and four assists.
“Allissa stepped up and had a great game for us again tonight,” Newman said. “We have players out there working hard, but we’re just looking for more players to step it up.”
With the win, Siskiyous improved to 1-1 in the GVC and 16-5 overall.
The Corsairs’ next game is scheduled at Lassen on Thursday.
“We know we can compete with these teams,” Newman said. “I’m not concerned because I know the girls are going to bounce back.”
