There is Always Next Year: CR Men Narrowly Miss Playoffs

All he could do was sit and wait over the weekend, hoping for news that his team would embark on the road to postseason glory.
Jayson Vossler knew he and his team did all they could to earn the right to lengthen their season with a playoff berth. Patiently he waited, and on Monday, he didn't get the news he wanted to hear.
Vossler's first year as the College of the Redwoods men's basketball team's head coach would not include the playoffs.
”We didn't make it ... I'm a little bummed,” Vossler said. “(The players) are bummed out. It's too bad. I felt we did enough to earn a spot.”
It would be another victory by a conference rival last Friday that was the catalyst to a unique chain of events which dashed the postseason right before the Corsairs' eyes.
”Butte beat Lassen, so we finished tied with Butte for second place (in the conference),” Vossler said. “They won the tiebreaker with us because they beat Feather River twice and we split. That made them the higher seed.”
The situation didn't sit quite well with Vossler.
”They (Butte) didn't have the quality wins that we had,” he said, “Butte didn't have the preseason we had.”
If there were any consolation to the news, it would be this:
”Butte didn't get in either,” Vossler said.
However, for Vossler, the disappointment of not getting into the postseason could not override the satisfaction his team provided him during the regular season.
”I'm really proud of them,” he said, “It's a young team and we got 17 wins. It was a solid year.”
Now, Vossler and his coaching staff are gearing to get ready for the offseason.
”We only lose two guys (sophomore's Darren Nye and Tom Higgins), but you're always looking to look for more guys,” Vossler said. “It's a year-round process, especially with junior college ball.
”There are lots of kids looking into four-year schools (when they come out) and when they don't get the scholarships or get in, they start to open their options. One of those options is junior college ball.”
