College of the Redwoods sophomore Lyndon Rowells was recognized for his phenomenal gridiron exploits as he was named both the Most Valuable Player and the Offensive Player of the Year in the Bay Valley Conference football league on Wednesday.
As part of his MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors, Rowells was picked to fill three positions -- running back, all-purpose back and returns specialist -- on the BVC all-league first team.
In 10 games this season, Rowells carried the ball 243 games for 1,580 yards (6.0 yards per carry) and scored 14 touchdowns.
Rowells also led CR's receivers with 20 catches, and picked up 141 yards and another touchdown.
As a punt returner, Rowells scored three more touchdowns while running back 14 punts for 487 yards (34.8 yards per return), including an 85-yard TD scamper.
Joining the league's MVP on the first team offense were three Corsairs' linemen -- Alberto Alejandres, Joe Kogut and Nick Jonte.
Three players on the Redwoods' defensive unit were named to the BVC's all-league first team.
Two D-linemen -- Marcus Coleman and Kyle Dillard-- joined defensive back Brad Johnson as the first-team selections.
In addition to the all-league first team selections, Nevin Blankenship was named to the all-league second team offense while CR linebackers Casey Sarvinski and Antonio Patterson received honorable mention.
Alejandres (Fortuna High), Coleman (Eureka), Jonte (Arcata High) and Sarvinski (Ferndale) played their prep football for Humboldt-Del Norte Conference teams.
