It was another case of too little, too late for the College of the Redwoods baseball team on Sunday.

The Corsairs allowed three unearned runs in game one to Golden Valley Conference foe Shasta falling 5-3 and were behind 8-5 in the nightcap before the game was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning.

"The story of the first game is we basically gave up three unearned runs in the first inning," said CR head coach Bob Brown. "It was a case of too little, too late. Hopefully, we can get things going today."

Redwoods (1-2 in GVC play, 3-6 overall) attempted to rally in the latter innings scoring a single run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

But it was still short. And a grand total of four errors didn't help matters.

Shasta (3-1, 3-11), on the other hand, brought in a pair of runs in the third inning giving them a 5-0 lead before the Corsairs were able to get the solo score in the home-half of the inning.

Mitch Provolt got the start on the mound for Redwoods in game one and went 5 1/3 innings giving up eight hits while walking three and striking out one. Chase Carpenter and Lane Stapp came in relief.

The Knights rode the arm of Ben Severe who went six innings, allowed six hits while walking three and fanning one CR batter. Zach Manley came in relief.

At the plate, CR was led by Ejoshua Reyes (2-for-4 with 2 RBI) and Spender Brandon (1-3, RBI).

Shasta's CJ Maldonado did the most damage going 4-for-5 with 5 ribbies.
