College of the Redwoods will hold its 113th Basic Law Enforcement Academy graduation on Thursday, June 12 at 1 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theater on the Eureka main campus.

Twenty-two cadets will participate in the ceremony.

The 113th class started in January. ''These cadets have demonstrated that they are ready to be hired by a law enforcement agency and begin a field training program,'' said CR Basic Law Enforcement Academy Coordinator Rick Grimm. ''They also performed more than 300 hours of local community service benefitting many local nonprofit groups.''

''So far this year, 77 per cent of Basic Academy graduates statewide have been hired either during or shortly after completion of their academy,'' said CR Emergency Response Training Center Director Ron Waters. ''This continues a 77 percent hiring rate for graduates in 2012 and 2013 statewide. Many of the local agencies have openings and are actively recruiting.''

The 114th CR Basic Law Enforcement Academy starts Monday, July 7, 2014 and currently has 25 cadets with more expected in the next few weeks as well as more than a dozen expected to join Module 1 of the academy in September. Anyone interested in attending the academy starting in January 2015 should go to the CR Basic Academy website at http://www.redwoods.edu/departments/police1/police-academy/ and click on ''Frequently Asked Questions.'' Any additional questions can be answered by calling the Training Center office at (707) 476-4334.

Representing CR at the graduation will be President/Superintendent Kathy Smith, members of the Board of Trustees, Waters, and Grimm.
