CR hosts free hospitality industry training courses in August for local youths 16-24
College of the Redwoods, in partnership with The Office of Rural Human Services in Del Norte, and StepUP for Youth Jobs will provide free training and hands-on experience in the hospitality industry for young adults between 16-24 years old continuing through the month of August.
A free lunch will be served to people taking both morning and afternoon classes. These classes are designed to build workplace skills that will enable participants to successfully begin jobs in the hospitality industry. Participants will receive a certificate for each class they successfully complete.
Many people work in the North Coast hospitality businesses, including restaurants, hotels, retail stores and tourist attractions. This program will provide training to improve participants' skills in customer service, cash handling, docent skills, workplace communication, workplace conflict management and restaurant server skills. The national ServeSafe preparation class and ServeSafe exam for food service employees will also be offered.
August classes are scheduled to start on Aug. 3 at the CR Eureka Downtown Instructional Site on 605 K Street. To register for classes, call (707) 269-4000.

* Cash Handling and Restaurant Server, Thursday, Aug. 5, 9 a.m.-12 and 1-4 (lunch, noon-1).
* Hospitality 101, Monday, Aug., 9 a.m.-noon.
* Cash Handling, Monday, Aug. 9, 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
* ServSafe Preparation, Tuesday, Aug. 10, 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (lunch noon-1)
* Hospitality Skills for the Lodging, Facility, Front Desk, and Housekeeping Departments, Tuesday, Aug.10, 9-noon.
* ServSafe Preparation and Review, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (lunch, noon-1). ServSafe exam administered from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
* Docent Training, Thursday, Aug.12, 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (lunch, noon-1).
