Apr 7, 2014 - 8:44:41 AM

College of the Redwoods will hold the 4th annual Student Gallery Exhibition, "Gods and Monsters," showcasing diverse paintings, ceramics, installation, and mixed media from emerging student artists. The exhibition will continue April 15 through 18 at the CR Gallery on the Eureka main campus. Gallery hours during this show will be from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. T-F. A reception for the artists will be held Tuesday, April 15 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The artists featured in the show include: Katie Holt, Emily Scilacci, Philip Deniz Kumsar and Diana Rostow.

Clay artist Katie Holt enjoys working in realms of imagination: creating creatures and figures that hold both a quiet and exaggerated resemblance to human forms. Artist Emily Scilacci grew up with music. Her abstract acrylics and watercolors depict how music makes her feel emotionally, while her more representational paintings interpret songs and what they might look like. Philip Deniz Kumsar's ink, gouache, and collage works depict monuments to memory and surreal fragments of autobiographical experience by paying homage to depictions of ancient deities. Diana Rostow works in clay, and has been fascinated by our cultural diversity as well as by our similarities throughout our human evolution.

These four artists have shared studio space this semester while enrolled in Art 14: Portfolio Development and Exhibition Preparation. This exhibition is a culmination of their works from the past several semesters in the Art Department at College of the Redwoods.
