College of the Redwoods will present "Future Perfect: Time Capsules in Reagan Country" an art, history, and political science project by Daniel Tucker, a Chicago-based artist. Come hear Daniel talk about this interesting and amusing work in progress, along with some of his other related artistic activities. The lecture is free and open to the public, and will be held in CR room HU 110 from 4:20 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday April 17.

Tucker is currently on a quest to hunt down historical time capsules buried throughout California, including several that were buried by Former Governor and President Ronald Reagan. Reagan repeatedly referred to the existence of time capsules throughout his lengthy political career, and he also frequently speculated about what the world would be like one hundred years in the future. The difference between Reagan’s vision and that of a science fiction author, curiously, is that Reagan's own vision is actually coming true. Weaving politics, science fiction, California history, art, and ecology together, Daniel Tucker's project is part speculative fiction, part public art, and part gallery installation, and will be staged in multiple sites throughout California this spring 2014.

Daniel Tucker works as an artist, writer, and organizer in Chicago. He makes documentaries about people and the places they are from, including the book "Farm Together Now," which celebrated author Michael Pollan called his favorite food book of 2010. Daniel is also currently working on the "Never The Same" oral history and archive project with University of Chicago Art History Professor Rebecca Zorach, and is also currently editing the book "Immersive Life Practices," as well as producing a video/writing project about self-sufficiency and the right-wing imagination while in residence at Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana (CA) this Spring 2014.
