Mendocino College will offer classes during fall semester 2014 at College of the Redwoods' Mendocino Coast Education Center in Fort Bragg, pending approval by both governing boards, as the result of an agreement recently signed by the presidents of both colleges.

The agreement, signed on June 26, covers classes and student services for fall semester 2014.

''Mendocino College appreciates the support, encouragement, and warm welcome offered by elected officials, community leaders, and students from the Coast communities over the past months,'' said Mendocino College President Arturo Reyes.

''We are pleased to temporarily extend Mendocino College's presence to the Coast community to ensure educational opportunities are accessible to the residents of the region.

''We look forward to serving the students of the Mendocino Coast with fall semester classes and we are optimistic that your strong interest and continued support will ensure robust enrollments in all our Coast Education Center courses.''

College of the Redwoods President Kathy Smith said, ''We welcome this opportunity to collaborate with Mendocino College and support them in providing instruction and student services to the Mendocino Coast communities. It has become increasingly difficult for CR to deliver educational services to the coastal region due to the distance between Fort Bragg and Eureka.''

Smith added that during the time of this agreement, the two colleges will continue discussing the possibilities of a long-term memorandum of understanding for the continued delivery of services to the Coast communities for the next two to three years. Future conversations may include the potential transfer of College of the Redwoods' Mendocino Coast territory and facilities from College of the Redwoods to Mendocino College.

For fall, Mendocino College will offer a variety of for-credit and non-credit classes, including those that will allow current students to continue toward completing the programs they began at CR.

A full listing of fall classes that will be offered by Mendocino College at the Mendocino Coast Education Center will be available soon on the Mendocino College website, www.mendocino.edu
