Cross-country gets stronger at Beaver Invitational
Oct 5, 2013 - 9:11:11 PM
The College of the Redwoods men’s and women’s cross-country teams continued to put their best foot forward at the Beaver Invitational at Folsome Lake on Saturday, improving their top times as they gear up for the conference and regional championships in a few weeks.
CR sophomore Beatrice Caffe beat her old 3-mile personal record by more than two minutes on Saturday, despite the warm temperatures, leading the women’s team with a time of 22 minutes, 33 seconds.
On the men’s side, meanwhile, it was freshman Gabe Best who also set a personal record, finishing the 4-mile course in 24:05 to lead the team, while Liam Burns finished just one second behind with a time of 24:06.
“Both our teams are getting stronger every day,” said CR head coach Reed Elmore. “We just have to get the women’s team running a bit closer together in a pack and get everyone on the men’s team healthy.”
The Corsairs compete next on Friday at the Jim Middleton Invitational in Cottonwood.
