College of the Redwoods had four runners set personal records at the Butte Invitational in Oroville on Thursday, which was the Corsairs’ final meet before the Golden Valley Conference championships next week hosted by Shasta.
On the women’s side, CR’s Karyl Roberts and Marie Knepper each broke their previous best times on the hilly 5-kilometer course, finishing in 12th and 13th, respectively, with times of 28 minutes, 22 seconds and 28:29.
For the men, it was Gabe Best (6th, 23:18) and Eric Smosna (15th, 28:21) who each set personal records on the 4-mile course, while Daniel Davis finished 14th with a time of 26:40 in his first college cross-country race.
“We had a few people out today to rest up for the conference championships next week, so we didn’t have full teams,” said CR head coach Reed Elmore. “But our goal is to make it to state.”
The GVC championships will be held at West Valley High School in Cottonwood on Thursday, starting at 3 p.m.
