College of the Redwoods head football coach Dave Banducci was named the 2009 Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year Wednesday.
Banducci, whose Corsairs finished undefeated (4-0) in the BVC, will face DeAnza College in the Southern Division Bowl on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cupertino.
Redwoods was well-represented on the BVC all-league team, as six offensive players -- all freshmen -- and six defensive players earned honors.
Running back Jourdan Del Biaggio from Ferndale High School, who rushed 112 times for 780 yards, was the top vote-getter among all running backs. His 7.0 yards per carry average tied him for fifth among all California Community College Athletic Association rushers.
Joining Del Biaggio on the offensive side of the ball were wide receiver David Darson, quarterback Will Hissong, and a trio of linemen, Dillon Reagan, Ben Scrivner and Nate Brown.
Darson caught 45 balls for 772 yards and nine of his 11 touchdowns came on receptions. His 17.2 yards per reception average placed him No. 18 among all CCCAA receivers.
The CR defense was represented by linemen Nick Bennett and Kim Prout, linebackers Sean Watson and Braden Bair, and backs Maurice Reid and Grant Laird.
Bennett's 7.5 sacks were good enough to tie him for No. 18 among all CCCAA defenders.
Bennett, Watson and Laird are sophomores, while Prout, Bair and Reid are freshman.
