2008 Yerington High graduate Sean Watson has enjoyed his two-year college football career and wouldn't mind seeing it continue, but he also is ready to move on to further schooling for his career.

Watson is interested in fire science and criminal justice; and in a couple weeks, he will start classes at Truckee Meadows Community College.

He spent the prior 1-1/2 years at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, CA, where he played linebacker.

Watson said he's interested in possibly joining the University of Nevada, Reno, football team as a walkon, but he's not sure about that and isn't planning on it.

"There's always a chance I can go out and try out for the (UNR) team, but if it didn't work out, it wouldn't break my heart," he said.

In the meantime, Watson plans to enter both the fire science and law enforcement academies at TMCC.

He added that while he's interested in both, his main interest right now is in criminal justice.

Watson's 2009 season at Redwoods got off to a late start as he fractured a rib at the start of practice and missed the first four games

The Redwoods' team was also stumbling, losing its first four games; and Watson said at that point, things weren't looking good, but the team rebounded and won its final six games to win its conference.

That also earned CR a trip to a California JC bowl game.

Watson didn't miss any league games and was rewarded by being named first-team all-league after playing both inside and middle linebacker. He said he kept in shape as best he could while out with the injury and participated in practice and meetings to be ready to play.

Despite his success, Watson said he really didn't have anyone offering scholarships to continue playing, and that after the injury, he decided to concentrate on school. He said the expense of attending school out-of-state was a key factor in deciding to transfer to TMCC.

"I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do," he said of the possible UNR plans.

Of his time at Redwoods, Watson said it was a little tough at first, but he made some good friends and enjoyed his time there.
