College of the Redwoods was shut out in back-to-back games and was swept by Butte in a Golden Valley Conference doubleheader at Oroville on Friday, falling 6-0 and 8-0, respectively.
The Corsairs had three hits in the opener and four hits in the nightcap, but failed to capitalize in either game.
“We just didn’t hit well enough to win,” said CR head coach Maggie White. “I was impressed with Tammy’s pitching today, especially in the first game, but the bottom line is we need more production on offense.”
Valley went all six innings of the opener for the loss, striking out nine with three walks, allowing only three earned runs.
“It was our defense that let us down,” White said.
The Corsairs had four errors in the game and spotted the Roadrunners a single unearned run in the second and two more in the third for a 3-0 lead.
In the nightcap, Butte had 12 hits and only two strikeouts and scored four runs in the third and three more in the fourth for an 8-0 lead.
Of the Corsairs seven hits in the two games, CR’s Elise Culbertson had three of them, finishing the doubleheader 3-for-3 with a double and two walks.
With the losses, the Corsairs drop to 1-7 in the GVC and 2-18 and will play next on Saturday in a doubleheader at Siskiyous, starting at noon.
