A total of five different Corsairs set personal records at the Bob Rush Invitational at San Mateo on Friday as the College of the Redwoods track and field team continues to build momentum for its run to the postseason championships.
“It was a really good day for us,” said CR head coach Reed Elmore. “Everybody is making progress and it looks like we’re ready now to make that leap and transition into peaking at the right time.”
CR’s Chaunice Bodkins set personal records in three of the four events she competed in, including the javelin (22.64 meters), shot put (9.48m) and hammer throw (25.47m), while Elizabeth Duncan, after taking third in her heat in the 1,500m (5 minutes, 27 seconds), set a personal record in the 800m (2:42).
On the men’s side, Artis Jones had a season-best in the 200m, finishing seventh overall with a time of 22.87 seconds, while Riccardo Cicciarella finished 11th overall in the same event with a PR of 23.55, and also tied for sixth in the long jump (19-feet, 8-inches).
CR’s Gabe Best broke his old personal record by eight seconds in the 1,600m with a time of 4:32.
“What we wanted to see today was everyone needed to at least equal their season best and we were able to do that, which means we’re setting ourselves up to have a great season,” Elmore said.
The Corsairs compete next at the American River Invitational on Saturday.
