Our
Mission
Funded by the California Student Aid Commission, CalSOAPs
mission is to increase the number of underrepresented
students from our area who continue on to college. We accomplish
this by:
1) increasing
the information about financial aid and post-secondary opportunities
to students and families who traditionally would not attend college,
2) improving
students access to higher education by raising their academic
achievement levels, and
3) decreasing
the duplication of local services by coordinating the efforts of
college outreach and support programs.
Although
we can serve all students in the region, we specifically seek students
who are from limited income families or students who would be the
first in their family to graduate from a 4-year college. We attain
the goal of increasing the number of our college-bound students
by working regionally as well as in specific schools.

Our
Success
In the 20 years of its existence, 75% of students involved in CalSOAP
programs statewide have continued on to collegesignificantly
more than the state average of about 50%. On the North Coast the program
is working well, with over 80% of the seniors who are involved in
College Knowledge continuing on to college or technical programs.
