Our Staff

Marcy Manning, Director of Northcoast CalSOAP since 1996, has worked in education in Humboldt County for more than 24 years. She received her BA in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1973 and an MA in Education from Humboldt State in 1992 when her daughter was in junior high.  Working with the dedicated staff and college students of CalSOAP has been a high point in her professional career. When not at work, she enjoys camping and hiking with her husband. She has also been known to read, travel and do art (mosaics are her current passion).

Brady Wells has worked for CalSOAP since September of 2000. She currently holds the position of Academic Advisor, Special Programs, and coordinates the elementary/middle school component. She comes to CalSOAP as a credentialed teacher, having worked as a Physical Education Specialist with elementary school students, as well as a Spanish teacher at the high school level. She enjoys going to movies and concerts, playing pool, and spending time in the outdoors.

Gail Cagle is the Administrative Office Coordinator for CalSOAP. She wears many hats, including that of office, database and budget manager. Gail has worked at College of the Redwoods for over 15 years, receiving her AA degree in 1994. She previously worked in the Research Department at CR before moving to CalSOAP in 1996. Away from the college she enjoys spending time with her 5 grandchildren, gardening, crocheting and reading murder mysteries.

Raven Aldrich works for CalSOAP as an Academic Advisor, Special programs and coordinates programs in four school sites. She came to CalSOAP in September of 2006, after teaching high school English in San Francisco for six years. She's very excited to be a part of the support team for college-bound students in Humboldt County. In her free time, Raven enjoys traveling, reading, camping and laughing with friends, as well as hanging out with her dog, Banjo.

Lorie Walsh joined the CalSOAP team in 2002 as an Administrative Office Assistant.  Lorie has an eleven-year employment history in the education environment.  She currently pursues her own educational goals through coursework at College of the Redwoods.  Lorie’s free time is spent with family, friends, an occasional good book, and working on never-ending home improvement projects with her husband.

College Student Tutors

CalSOAP lesgislation requires that programs employ college students to work directly with younger students in our program. College students are strong role models as they provide tutoring and pre-college advising.

By working in the schools, our college students gain meaningful work experience while helping meet the expenses of their own education. Many of the students who have worked for us aspire to be teachers. In fact, our former staff have gone on to credential programs, to social work and school counseling programs, and the Peace Corps.

Our college student staff are enrolled in either College of the Redwoods or Humboldt State University, but they hail from places as diverse as Fortuna, Southern California, the Bay area, Colorado, and New Jersey. It is a particularly enriching experience for local college students to return as a pre-college advisor to the high school where they graduated.
