College Student Tutors

CalSOAP lesgislation requires that programs employ college students to work directly with younger students in our program. College students are strong role models as they provide tutoring and pre-college advising.

By working in the schools, our college students gain meaningful work experience while helping meet the expenses of their own education. Many of the students who have worked for us aspire to be teachers. In fact, our former staff have gone on to credential programs, to social work and school counseling programs, and the Peace Corps.

Our college student staff are enrolled in either College of the Redwoods or Humboldt State University, but they hail from places as diverse as Fortuna, Southern California, the Bay area, Colorado, and New Jersey. It is a particularly enriching experience for local college students to return as a pre-college advisor to the high school where they graduated.
