Course Descriptions
HE-1 Health Education
(3 units lecture) Grade Only CSU and UC A study of personal
and family health needs. Specific attention is given to the
following: mental health, drugs and alcohol, pre-marriage
and family, nutrition, common diseases, death and aging,
consumer health, and physical fitness.
HE-2 Critical Issues in Women’s Health
(3 units lecture) Grade Only CSU and UC An exploration of
various health issues which are directly related to female
gender. The issues include cardiovascular health, women’s
cancers, menopause, disorders of the reproductive system,
and osteoporosis.
HE-7 First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and the
Community
(2 units lecture/lab) CR/NC option CSU and UC Provides
students with the knowledge and skills necessary to help
sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or
sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives. The course
meets the requirements for certification through the American
Red Cross. Note: In order to receive American Red Cross
certification, students need to be physically able to perform lab
skills.
HE-152 C.P.R.
(0.5 units lecture/lab) CR/NC option Provides lecture-
demonstration, as well as laboratory practice in one- and two-
rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), infant CPR, and
obstructed airway. Successful completion provides American
Heart Association certification. This course is appropriate
for health care providers, emergency service personnel, first
responders, life guards, and forestry personnel.
