SNLAN-1 Introduction to Sign Language
(3 units lecture) CR/NC option CSU This course studies the
various sign systems used in communication with hearing
impaired persons in the United States. It also introduces
elementary signs, finger spelling, and information about the
deaf culture and its history.
SNLAN-4A American Sign Language
(4 units lecture) CR/NC option CSU and UC A study in the
fundamentals of American Sign Language--its grammar,
syntax, vocabulary--and introduction to basic information
about the hearing impaired, the deaf culture, and the deaf
community. Note: Field trips will be taken to deaf cultural events.
The College does not provide transportation.
SNLAN-4B American Sign Language
(4 units lecture) Grade Only CSU and UC A continuation
of American Sign Language, deaf culture, and the deaf
community. The theory of American Sign Language grammar
is stressed along with vocabulary building. Prerequisite:
SNLAN-4A Note: Field trips will be taken to deaf cultural events.
The College does not provide transportation.
SNLAN-6 Conversational Sign Language
(1.5 units lecture/lab) CR/NC only CSU Repeatable to a maximum
of two enrollments A course designed to provide conversational
skills in sign language and signed systems. Both sign language
and finger spelling are studied and practiced.
