Phi Theta Kappa - International Honor Society of the Two- Year College

Founded in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education and has been recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor society for two-year colleges. College of the Redwoods chartered the Beta Gamma Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa in 1996. The chapter provides opportunities for the development of leadership and service, an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, lively fellowship for scholars, and stimulation of interest in continued academic excellence.

The Benefits of Membership Include:

  • Phi Theta Kappa “Golden Key” membership pin, membership certificate and identification card, and diploma seal indicating Society membership
  • Access to Phi Theta Kappa’s online Scholarship Directory and automatic enrollment in the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Database, which is made available to four-year institutions that actively recruit transfer students
  • Eligibility to apply for Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships offered by 600 four-year colleges and universities.

Invitation to membership is extended by the chapter to students without advanced degrees who are enrolled at CR, have completed at least 12 units of course work leading to an associate degree, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
