COMMUNITY & ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIVISION

Community and Economic Development provides a wide range of educational opportunities throughout Del Norte, Humboldt, and Mendocino counties. Classes, programs, training, and workshops are offered as lifelong learning opportunities. The not-for-credit classes are designed to develop professional skills, enhance career opportunities, enrich personal knowledge, and promote cultural and academic growth. Community Education

Class offerings may include avocational subjects such as art, consumer issues, self improvement, home and garden, and photography. Classes may also be designed to meet the specific needs of a business or organization. Com- munity Education classes may be offered during the day, evening, weekend and on-line. These are not-for-credit classes and workshops are fee-based. (707)269-4000

Professional Development

Professional Development educational opportuni- ties range from job-related workshops and seminars to full-semester courses. Typical non-credit courses include computer software training, AutoCAD, E-Commerce, Management Skills, Conflict Resolution, Customer Service, and Spanish for the Workplace. College of the Redwoods is especially interested in meeting the needs of all businesses small and large. (707)269-4002

Customized Training

To remain competitive in today’s marketplace, businesses must rely on the continued optimal performance of their most important asset, their employees. College of the Redwoods responds to this immediate need by providing a full range of customized training services that increase the employees’ knowledge and skill base. Computer Training Centers

College of the Redwoods offers two convenient computer training centers. The Arcata Instructional Site is located at 100 Ericson Court, Suite C in Arcata. The CR Computer Lab, at the Prosperity! Center is located at 520 E Street in Eureka. Classes are scheduled for open enrollment and can be customized for your specific business needs. Foster Parent Kinship Care Program

Expand your heart through foster and kinship pre-service training. CR’s Foster and Kinship Care Education (FKCE) Program provides accessible and useful information that will educate and challenge foster and kinship care providers. If you are already a licensed care provider, enhance your skills and sharpen your knowledge by attending our in-service, therapeutic and special topic training classes. (707)269-4003

Truck Driving

This program provides training and a background for many kinds of truck driving jobs. It involves lecture and driving time. Topics include gauges and instruments, safety, shift patterns for various transmissions, brake systems and adjustment. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a certificate and will be accompanied to the DMV for their final test. (707)269-4000

Real Estate License Preparation

Community & Economic Development offers a distance learning program that meets the approved course requirement to take the state real estate license examination. The course is completed at home with no classroom attendance. (707)269-4000

Medical

Certain not-for-credit medical classes are also available such as Injections and Venipuncture for medical assistants under the supervision of a physician. EMT and CPR refresher courses are also offered as well as a summer IV Therapy class. (707)269-4000

REBRAC

The Regional Environmental Business Resource Center, REBRAC, is funded through a grant form the Community Colleges Chancellor ’s office. The primary function of the REBRAC is to provide information, audits and training to businesses concerning CalEPA and CalOSHA compliances. Many of the services are low cost. The REBRAC office is located in the Prosperity! Center, 520 E Street and can be reached by calling (707)441-9317.

WoodFair

This event has for over 17 years provided community members and visitors the opportunity to view and purchase some of the finest hand made wooden crafts, art and furniture in North America. There are over 30 artisans that sell their wood crafted products. Additionally, there is a juried gallery exhibit that contains breathtaking works of fine woodworking art and furniture. Demonstrations and classes are offered in woodturning and Marquetry and a variety of other wood related areas. For details call (707) 269-4010.

Violin and Bow Making School

This unique program offers the beginning enthusiast and experienced violin makers the opportunity to work with widely recognized and respected violin and bow making instructors. Violin students learn pattern, template, tool and form making and tool maintenance and materials. Bow Making includes bow restoration and rehairing along with bow making techniques. Bow making in the French tradition allows the participants to carve a bow that is aesthetically pleasing and functional. For more information call (707)269-4002.
