Mj welcomed visitors, Yannick Nadeau and Will Bertain, to the group and everyone introduced themselves.

Kyle Bigham and Patrick Cross were elected as 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President respectively.

Consent Calendar:

Action items approved.

1.      Mj explains the procedure in approving the consent calendar.

2.      Mj explains what the action items are.

a.      The GPA increase to 3.3 cumulative and per semester will apply to everyone next fall semester; however, initial members will need to have a 3.3 GPA starting in the spring semester.  The increased GPA requirement will help AGS gain the much deserved respect from CR administration. We will also have a better chance at receiving funds from CR if we meet the college's minimum standards for honors.

President's Report:

2.3    Mj was asked by Ahn Fielding to form an AGS team for the upcoming CASA Kid Walk event on October 18.

a.        The 1st annual event is a ½ -mile walk through Old Town, Eureka to raise awareness and funds for CASA of Humboldt County.

b.        We currently have six people on our team, and we will be selling candy bars as our fundraiser. Ahn has designed the labels for the candy bars.

2.4    Mj reminded continuing members to submit membership materials into the AGS mailbox by October 17 (i.e. spring/summer grades, receipt of payment, and proof of registration).

2.5    We will be hosting a membership drive in September to recruit new members.

a.        We need more members to help out with booth sitting.

b.        There will be two bake sales held during the membership drive on Sept. 11 & 29.

2.6    The Trinity River Rafting trip we ventured out on in June was a trip well worth a repeat. We should make this an annual event.

2.7    The Relay For Life event was a success for Humboldt County and AGS.

a.        Even though CR has hosted the event since its inception in 1991, the AGS team, "Gamma Rays", was the FIRST team from CR to partake in the event!  Yowza.

b.        The Gamma Rays walked 72.5 miles, nearly $1,600, and earned 3rd place in the Spirit Award out of 500 teams.

c.         Congratulations to Diane (~$300) and Patrick (~$200) who raised the most money.

d.        Thanks to Mj and Kathleen who earned the most spirit beads for the team.

2.8    At the Humboldt County Fair in August, Gamma Rho shared table space with CR's Bianchi Farm crew to promote CR, AGS, and the organic agriculture Bianchi Farm.

a.        Thanks to all who volunteered to work the exhibit.  As it turned out, AGS devoted the most time at the fair. We had 33 inquiries about AGS during the fair.

1st Vice President's Report:

3.1  Kyle shared his goals to increase fundraising efforts.

2nd Vice President's Report:

4.1  Patrick shared his goals to increase membership and promote fun events.

Treasurer's Report:

5.2    We have about $450.00 in our account.  This amount does not reflect pending printing, state dues, or AGS banner costs.

Secretary's Report:

6.3    Charlotte wasn't to proud of her past record in getting the minutes and agenda out in time, so she has set a goal for the new semester to disseminate materials in a timely fashion.

a.        She will also try to keep the website more up to date.

Advisor's Report:

7.1  George gave a warm welcome encouraging students to join AGS.

I.C.C. Rep's Report:

8.2    We have done more service work than PTK, but they still get funding.

a.        Mj says if PTK remains inactive for another year then AGS has a chance to take over their line in CR's budget. While it is too early to approach administration with budget funding, Mj suggests the advisors meet with Dr. Bobbit next year.

Newsletter Editor's Report:

9.1    Margaret has met with Diana, the outgoing Newsletter Editor, and received files from the previous newsletters.  However, the files are in a different format, so she will have to start from scratch in Word. The Word format will make the transition easier for future newsletter editors.

a.        So far Margaret has received the following articles: 4H Trails, Humboldt County Fair, Editor's corner, River rafting trip, AGS calendar, and Adopt-A-Highway.

b.        Her goal is to have the newsletter done by Wed. at 5pm.  Deadline for submittals is Wed. at 4pm.

c.         It is our goal to have a monthly newsletter.

d.        Margaret welcomes comments and suggestions on the newsletter

Webmaster's Report:

11.1    Updates have been made but not uploading to the site yet.

Members-At-Large:

11.2    Kathleen inquired about the Mendocino's interest in a co-chapter on their campus.

a.      In June, Mj sent emails to people that were interested but has not received a response.

Announcements:

12.1    August 31 - Adopt-A-Highway cleanup at 12pm

12.2    September 1 - set up display in forum breezeway at 10am

12.3    September 4 - general meeting at 3:00pm in the Lakeview Room

President's Report:

2.1    Mj was approached by Julie Gordon, Admin. Assist. Division Chairs Office, during the membership drive and asked if AGS would sell refreshments for CR's Science Night on Oct. 24 from 5pm-10pm.  The event is well attended by the community and student body, so it is a great opportunity to raise money for AGS.  The event committee is only looking for one student organization to sell refreshements.
