College of the Redwoods New
Collaborative Learning Environment

College of the Redwoods has moved to a new online learning system called MyCR.  MyCR is based on the open source collaborative environment known as Sakai, built specifically for education by some of the top institiutions in the country.

All online classes are run via this new system, and many campus-based faculty may choose to use the system as an enhancement to their offerings. This system provides more collaboration capabilities and some new and exciting tools that were not available before. MyCR also allows for official student groups to request a special project site just for their use.  For example, a student club, service group, or advocacy group may request a collaboration site set up just for their use.

Key Features of the MyCR System:

  • Each user gets his/her own personal workspace site. This personal space is used to manage your account settings, search for joinable groups, store documents for editing and sharing with others, search for user profiles, track due dates in all your classes, view upcoming events and announcements.
  • Course sites integrate many tools to make the learning environment more exciting. Depending on the course, these tools may include lessons, tests/quizzes, blogs, wikis, discussion forums, and online gradebook. In addition, the tools you have through Google can be linked to courses.

  • All instructions and content is provided in the Course Tools portion: Syllabus, Weekly Lessons, Tests, Wiki, Podcasts, Grades

  • Site Management is where you can see the Roster and learn about your classmates if they've chosen to enter any information.

  • Whenever you are logged into a course, the grey box on the left will show you anyone else who is in the course at the same time. This might help you send a quick message.

  • On the right is a summary of course information. The Calendar may contain due dates, test dates, ,or other informaiton. The other two areas summarize the anouncements, messages, and recent forum postings. Click on the links to learn more in those areas.
