College of the Redwoods holds Book of the Year events at Del Norte campus

Published on 2/8/2017.

College of the Redwoods’ Book of the Year Program has several events scheduled to celebrate this year’s selection of the memoir ‘Between the World and Me’ by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

On February 9 at 6:00 p.m. in Room 29 of the CR Del Norte Education Site, the public is invited to a showing of the documentary ‘13th.’  In this thought-provoking film, scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the US prison boom. The documentary explores the continuing vulnerability of people of color, a theme that echoes ‘Between the World and Me.’ The showing will be free and open to the public.

The following week, February 13 to 16, members of the community are invited to stop by the college to participate in the creation of an interactive art piece by San Francisco-based artist Mary March celebrating ‘Between the World and Me.’ March’s final creation will involve the words of participants from all campus sites, including Del Norte, Pelican Bay, Klamath-Trinity, and Eureka. The art work will travel to various locations and will be on display on the Del Norte Campus sometime before the end of this semester.

For more information about these events, visit the Book of the Year website at redwoods.edu or call 465-2336 for more information.
