College of the Redwoods announces the launch of OneREG

Published on 4/19/2016.

College of the Redwoods is proud to announce the launch of its new OneREG process on April 4th.  OneREG allows students the opportunity to register for an entire school year at one time – including summer, fall and spring terms.  In building the system that allows students to register for an entire academic year, CR provides students with a way to secure their annual class load, potentially shorten their time to graduation, and provides students greater control in planning their lives around school.

Mr. Tom Ross, President of the CR Board of Trustees, says that “the Board of Trustees has made a clear and unambiguous commitment to the community that the College will do all it can to improve student success and achievement—and now we’re delivering on that commitment with OneREG.  Nearly 40% of our area’s high school students attend College of the Redwoods within a year of graduating high school.  OneREG allows them to map out their academic path and ensure it’s the most efficient way to reach graduation or certification.”

CR is taking a leadership role, along with a few other CA institutions, to offer registration for an entire year.  According to Interim President/Superintendent of CR, Dr. Keith Snow-Flamer, “OneREG is part of our overall strategy to provide greater support to students at CR.”  He explains that “OneREG is the result of faculty, staff and management efforts to work together to help students achieve their dreams.  OneREG will especially benefit students in our Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) program and provides the most cost efficient path for our students.”  The ADT program allows students to complete their two year degree and seamlessly transfer to a four year institution.

Dr. Mark Winter, Interim Vice President for Instruction and Student Development at CR, sees OneREG as the logical consequence of year-long scheduling that was already happening on campus.  “Our Career Technical Education, and our math, and science programs have been doing student centered, year-long scheduling for years.  It’s critical in these areas, so that students take the correct prerequisite courses in order to advance towards their degree.  OneREG is an expansion of these ongoing efforts to better meet our students’ needs.”

Students are also very supportive of the new registration process.  “OneREG is definitely an opportunity I will take advantage of” said CR nursing student Destynee Gray. “Not only will it make it easier to utilize the education plan provided by counselors, but it creates an efficient schedule and eliminates the stress of being waitlisted.  Having my whole year planned out is encouraging and reassuring. It makes my goals seem more accessible and provides more motivation to power through the year.”

OneREG launches on April 4th, with priority registration for five special student populations, including:  foster youth, CalWORKs, Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS), Disabled Students Programs & Services (DSPS), and Veterans.  Priority registration for continuing students will begin on April 7th and registration for new and returning students will begin April 18th.  Concurrent students may begin registration on April 20th.
