Northcoast Cal-SOAP, College of the Redwoods/Del Norte Campus, and Del Norte County Unified School District are proud to announce the 12th Annual "I'm Going to College!" (IGTC) program. IGTC is designed to plant the seed with 4th graders that with the right knowledge and skills, college is more than a dream, it’s a reality.

On Friday, May 6th, from 9 AM-1 PM, Del Norte County 4th grade students will attend "College Day" at College of the Redwoods/Del Norte Campus where they will be welcomed as honorary college students. During the day-long visit, students interact with college students, attend mini-classes and take a college tour.

A little background on the event…Crescent City’s I’m Going to College started in 2003 reaching just one school and has grown to include every 4th grader in the county.  The program is based on research that children are more likely to pursue a higher education if they are encouraged to go to college at an early age. The Northcoast California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP), a co-sponsor of this event, employs college students to tutor middle and high school students so they will be prepared academically for college and informed about college admissions, financial aid, and how to be a successful college student. In Del Norte County, we place Cal-SOAP tutors at Crescent Elk and Del Norte High, and are co-sponsors of College Admissions Night, Cash for College, and IGTC. Cal-SOAP is a project of the Humboldt County Office of Education and is funded by the California Student Aid Commission, the state’s largest provider of financial aid to college students.
