Guidance 343-Syllabus
Introduction to Learning Disabilities
The primary purpose of Guidance 343 is to determine if a student is eligible for the Learning Disabilities Program. This is accomplished through an assessment based on the California Community Colleges LD Eligibility Model. In addition to the assessment, students will complete assignments designed to expand understanding of learning disabilities and how they can affect college students, and to learn what academic accommodations are available.
In order to earn credit for Guidance 343 each student must complete the following:
Learning disabilities eligibility assessment (approximately 5 hours)
Required lab hours (approx. 12 hours)
Homework assignments

Adaptive Strategies for the Learning Disabled
General Information
Throughout the semester, each student with a learning disability will work on assembling a "tool box" of compensatory strategies and self-advocacy skills that will help to maximize his/her ability to succeed in the college setting.
Students can enroll in variable units of this class, allowing them access to instructional assistance, study groups, adaptive computer software and hardware in addition to compensatory and advocacy skill development, and a supportive, knowledgeable staff.
