ACADEMIC COUNSELING AND ADVISING
Academic counselors and advisors at CR Del Norte are dedicated to helping students succeed in reaching their educational goals. Preceding and throughout each academic semester, many services are provided including placement testing, assistance in planning academic schedules, preparing student educational plans, and identifying additional resources.
By making an appointment with a counselor/advisor, students can receive assistance in the following areas:
- Academic Advising
The staff in this office help students plan their term-by-term course schedules, establish their educational goals and choose their academic programs, meet general education requirements, transfer to 4-year colleges or universities and understand graduation requirements and the graduation petition process.
- Educational Planning
The counseling/advising staff guides students through the development of Student Education Plans (SEP's), which serve as roadmaps for students seeking CR degrees or certificates. Each student's educational plan is individualized, so that it takes into account his/her individual needs, strengths, preparation, and outside commitments while making sure that both required and elective courses are completed in a timely manner.
- Academic Problem Solving
Counselors and advisors are trained to help students develop the strategies they may need to overcome obstacles that threaten to block the attainment of their academic/educational goals.
- Referrals
The counseling and advising staff are skilled at making quality referrals to other departments, services, and agencies as needed.
