The basic workings of your camera to advanced options.  The mysteries 

of digital cameras exposed and making personal photos look  

professional.  Please bring your digital camera and manual.

                        Working with black and white and color photographs we will examine the

various means of both traditional film and digital image capture. We will

discuss basic camera and accessory operations including: aperture settings

shutter speeds, depth of field, focus, simple lighting situations and

composition.  Each participant will make photographs as a part of the

class, so a camera is required.  Please bring your digital camera and

manual.

                        A continuation of  Photography.   We will look at what exactly is

                        photography, where it has been, its changes, and where, possibly, it is

                        going. We will explore more lighting situations, shadows and reflections,

                        proportions, composition and the editing of images.  Please bring your

                        A basic overview of watercolor pencil techniques in a relaxed atmosphere.                          Demonstrations of stipple, cross hatch, layering, wash, color theory and more.

                        Students of any experience level welcome.  We will explore

                        various techniques of using watercolors.  Techniques include:

                        composition, wash, wet and dry brush, salt, spatter and plastic wrap.

                        Learn approaches to drawing the human figure.  We will study the

                        basics of rendering the form through a through study of anatomy,

                        building the figure with shapes, and how to create a sense of movement

                        If you've always wanted to draw but were too intimidated to try, this

class is for you.  the basics of shape, line, shading, contour, hatching, 

composition and proportion will be covered.  Use this class as a foundation

for other art and creative classes.  Bring what supplies you have to the first

class.  A supply list will be handed out at the first class.

                        color mixing, shading, layering, burnishing, indenting and more.  Bring

                        of techniques.  Weekly demonstrations will include stipple, cross-hatch,

                        Learn techniques such as color theory, wash, indenting, wet-into-wet, salt,     

                        spatter, alcohol spray, plastic wrap, and sandpaper with hands on practice

                         and instructor demonstrations.  Bring pencil, 2 sheets of watercolor paper

                        and any other supplies you already have to the first class.  A supply list

                        will be handed out then.

                         The basic techniques for color pencil drawing will be covered. 

                         Demonstrations will include: color mixing, shading, layering, burnishing

                         indenting, composition, texture and more.  Bring pencils, kneaded

                        We will look at arrangement of composition, how elements are placed,

                        and how light, shadow, tonality and movement affect the work.

                        Bring: 11” x 14” Sketch pad, 11” x 14” Bristol pad (smooth surface),

                        ebony pencil, conte crayons, colored pencils, fine, medium and thick

                        black markers, pastels and soft & vine charcoal.

                        color theory, shading, blending, scraping, color mixing, layering

                        and more.  Hands on practice and instructor demonstrations,

                        Bring a 2B pencil, kneaded eraser, and drawing paper to the first class,

                        along with any oil pastels you may already have. A supply list will be

                        handed out at the first class.

                        Develop the human figure into a painting.  Learn about different types

                        of brushes to use, talk about color usage, composition, water based paints

                        and mixed media.  Bring any materials you have to the first class.

 

 022189   Chalk Pastels

                       Quality pastels are pure pigment powder blended with a small amount of

                       inert binder.  Essentially pastel is pure color.

                       We will explore the use of pastels and examine how the texture of the

                       working surface affects the finished work.  Bring what supplies you have.

020569   Basic Sewing Part 2

                        This class is a continuation of Basic Sewing 1.  We will continue working on

projects and learn additional techniques such as setting sleeves, basic

fitting concepts and hemming. 

 

022404   Call of the Masks

                        Instructor: K. DeLorme                 Fee: $20       

                        Learn how masks have been made and used in cultures since the ancient

                        mists of time.  There will be a dazzling display of masks from many countries

                        and some experiential "mask play time."  Come and discover the rich mask

                        traditions from around the globe, including our contemporary forms of

                        "masking."  Masks can both conceal and reveal our identities.  They are

                        magical, liberating, amusing and alive!  The last hour of the class will be

                        devoted to making your own mask.

                        Learn to thread and use your sewing machine.  We’ll sew straight,

angled, and curved seams, and learn essential hand stitches for

seams and hems.  This course will give you all the fundamentals

you need to “get going sewing”!

                        Learn the following skills: fabric selection, rotary cutting, and machine

piecing techniques, layering and finishing options.  Materials needed:

                        Beginners learn the basics of crocheting, from casting on to a variety of

                        crochet stitches, reading patterns and lots general knowledge tips.

More advanced students will learn an array of stitches and color usage.

                        Learn how to apply conventional and invisible zippers.

                        Learn how to sew, starting with very basic skills.  Learn

basic sewing machine operations, laying out and cutting

a pattern, staystitching, applying facings, and turning a tube.

You will create a sample book of the techniques you learn.
