Course Requirements: There will be 6 full hours per week of lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and intensive art making. Your total involvement in each of these activities is absolutely required. In addition to in-class work, you may need to spend several hours per week outside of class finishing projects. You are also required to submit a portfolio of all work for a midterm and final portfolio review (the dates are indicated in boldface on your course calendar.)
Course Grading:
Midterm Portfolio review: 40% (of your grade)
Final Portfolio review: 40%
in classroom projects, lectures,
demonstrations, and critiques: 20%
Participation/Involvement: Attendance is critically important for this course as most of the work will be done during class time. It is absolutely crucial to your grade that you show up with all your supplies, participate fully, and work diligently for the entire class period. If you must miss a class, you’ll need to complete at least 3 hours of work per missed class, to be done either at home or during the Ink People or other local life drawing group sessions. You also must show me your makeup work before it is submitted for grading, so I can make sure it is done correctly. Remember, if you expect to receive an “A” in this course, all missed work must be made up completely and correctly. Another essential requirement for getting an “A”: miss no more than 4 classes throughout the semester.
Bringing Supplies: You must bring the required supplies to each class session, as I will not be providing any materials. If you come to class empty-handed, you will be counted absent for that day. Also, do not mooch supplies off of classmates! Please see me if you are missing a few items.
Class Conduct: I insist upon a professional and studious atmosphere in all my courses. If you consistently arrive late or leave early, chat during work sessions, distract other students, or somehow lower the concentration level of the classroom--you will be strongly discouraged from taking this course. This course is for serious students, but don’t worry if you feel you have little skill at art. Give me 100% of your involvement, be willing to do your best, and you should have no problem succeeding in this course!
Conduct with Models: Your conduct toward the models shall always be courteous and professional. No comments should ever be made to the model about his or her appearance.
Miscellaneous: Call me "Cindy". Also, should the calendar for this syllabus change due to extenuating or other circumstances, I will issue you an addendum so that you'll always know what we are doing on each day we meet. Additionally, you can download a copy of this syllabus on-line at http://www.redwoods.edu/departments/art/hooper/
